STREET KIDS IN ARUSHA,TANZANIA
Arusha is a very busy tourist city with many people visiting on their way to one of the many famous national parks nearby. Although tourism has many upsides, such as contributing to the country’s economy, it also has its major downfalls.
Arusha is home to a large number of street children, aging 5 years and older. The children come to Arusha because their chances of getting money by begging from the tourists that are visiting are greater. In the evening one can walk down the streets and the children will be looking for food, and for a place to sleep. They find food in the dumpsters where disease is rampant. The children will then sleep under the verandas in front of the shops. One child will use the next child’s feet for a place to rest their head, and so it goes- hundreds of street children looking out for each other, not knowing what else to do.
