MEET THE KIDS
Godfrey is one of the youngest kids at SOL. He is nursery school at Maji ya Chai Primary School and loves to learn. Gody also likes to draw and skip rope.
John is from Karatu-Arusha but had to leave his family because his mother passed away and had no one left to care for him. John is in kindergarten at the local primary school and enjoys learning. When John is not at school he likes to play football and help wash the dishes.
Anna is is class 2 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and likes to study history. Anna is full of life and loves to sing and to tell stories.
Joshua is one of the younger kids at SOL and has come to the centre because his home situation was very poor. At the centre Joshua likes to jump rope and likes to help with the sweeping.
Albert is in class 4 at Maji ya Chia Primary School and likes to study science. Albert is a kind very kind kid who likes to help out the gardner at the centre.
Kelvin is in class 3 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and likes to study. Kelvin also helps out around the centre by watering the garden.
Prisca is in class 2 at Happy Watoto Primary School. Prisca is a very kind and soft-spoken girl who likes to study. She also really enjoys nightly religious class and loves to sing.
Ema is 6 years old and is in kindergarten at Happy Watoto Primary School. Ema is full of energy and has a big personality. Ema is always asking questions and wanting to learn and likes to study math and English. Ema likes to sing songs and dance at his nightly religion class.
Chief is in class 3 at Maji ya Chia Primary School and likes to study history and science. When Chief is not at school or helping out with the chores he likes to play soccer with the other village kids.
Joseph left his home with his older brother because their family could not take care of their basic needs and he was not happy there. Joseph is currently in class 1 and enjoys to run and play with the other kids at the centre.
Elibariki is in class 1 at Maji ya Chai Primary School. Bariki is a very outgoing child who loves to listen to music and to dance. Bariki is very good with the younger kids and helps clean the mess hall after meals.
Claud is in class 1 at Maji ya Chai Primary School. Claud is one of the quieter kids at SOL but he is always watching and learning from the ones around him. Claud likes to play soccer when he is not studying or helping out with chores.
Ascia is in class 1 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and likes to study history and math. Ascia really likes to draw and skip rope when she is not in school or helping out around the centre.
Raphael is in grade 2 at Happy Watoto Primary School. Raphael likes to play soccer and can even find him wearing his soccer shoes to school.
Forget and her two brothers (Ema and Michael) were abandoned by their parents and Forget had to care for all three of them. Forget is in class 7 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and is studying to pass her national exam to go to Secondary School next year. When Forget is not studying she likes to work in the kitchen, sing, and play net ball.
"P" is one of the youngest children at the centre but he has very big personality. He keeps everyone laughing with his funny comments and his dancing. P's mother abandoned him and was living on the streets when a woman found him and brought him to Sunrise of Life. P in Kindergarten at the local primary school. He says he wants to 'drive a car' when he is older.
Theodosia is 10 years old and is in grade 2 at Maji ya Chai Primary School. When Theo is not studying or helping out around the centre she likes to skip rope and to draw.
Adam is in class 3 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and likes to study most subjects. Adam loves to play soccer and you can find him down at the field when we is not helping out around the centre.
Joel had to leave his family because they had a bad home life. Now that Joel is at the centre he enjoys being able to get an education and being able to get basic life needs such as food, shelter and clothes. Joel also really likes to draw when he is not studying for school.
Emmanuel came to the center with his older brother and sisters over a two years ago. Ema and his brother and sister were abandoned by their parents and were living on the streets. Ema is very smart and learns quickly. He loves playing soccer with the other kids. Ema has an infectious laugh that everyone at the center loves. Ema is in class two at Maji ya Chai Primary School.
Johnson is a very kind kid who likes to likes to help out around the centre by collecting fire wood and helping with the animals. Johnson is in class 4 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and he likes to study history.
Derick came to us when his grandmother became too weak to care for him due to cancer. Derick has a wonderful laugh and is full of energy. He loves playing soccer and helping in the garden. Derick is in class 2 and wants to be a teacher when he is older.
Michael came to the centre with his older brother, older sister, and younger brother after their parents abandoned them and they were living alone on the streets in the village. Michael is very bright and eager to learn. He loves to play board games or any type of cards. Michael is currently in class 4 at Maji ya Chai Primary School.
Joel is from Majengo-Moshi but was chased away from home by his mother and had to live on the streets for two months. Joel is in class 4 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and likes to study math.
Sophia is Abdul's younger sister and both of them came to SOL because their mother could no longer care for them. Sophia is in class 1 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and loves to learn. When Sophia is not at school she likes to sing and help do chores at the centre.
Abdul left his family at a young age because his mother taught him to beg for money and he soon saw this as normal behaviour. Now that Abdul is living in a more stable environment he really enjoys studying for school and playing football with the other kids.
Jackson came to SOL because his parents were unable to care for him. At the centre Jackson likes to play football and studies hard for his class 1 subjects.
Kurwa was living on the streets for over eight years because his mother could not provide for him and could not send him to school due to extreme poverty. Kurwa now enjoys going to school and studying for his classes. When he is not studying Kurwa likes to draw and play football and to dance.
Benson is from Ndatu-Meru-Arusha and was living with his grandmother before coming to the centre. Unfortunately, his grandmother could not provide food and shelter for him. Now that Benson is at SOL he is very happy and loves being able to go to school at Maji ya Chai Primary School.
Abdul was living on the street for nearly two years because he ran away from home due to a harsh grandfather. Abdul is in class 3 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and likes to study for all subjects. When Abdul is not studying for school he likes to sing.
Fred grew up in Rombo-Moshi with his mother because his father abandoned them. Only having one parent in the household, his mother was not able to make enough money to support the family and he was forced to beg in order to provide for himself. Now that Fred is at SOL he is very happy and he loves to care for the cows and play football.
Zuwena had a difficult childhood and came to the centre because her mother could not afford to take care of her. Zuwena is a very good student and a big help around the centre. She loves to participate in church activities and is a lovely singer.
Zaina is in class 1 at Maji ya Chai Primary school. Zaina came to SOL because her mother died and there was no one else to care for her. Zaina loves to studying, doing centre chores, and playing games with the other children.
Joshua lost his father when he was young and his mother could could not pay his school fees or care for him. He lived on the streets for several months. He loves to play soccer and is an excellent drawer. He is a natural leader among the other boys. Joshua is in class 6 at Maji ya Chai Primary School.
Nuru is from the town of Babati-Arusha but ran away from home because his parents could not provide for him and could not send him to school. Nuru is in class 6 at Ngorika Happy Watoto and he likes to play handball and likes drawing in his spare time.
Davis came to the centre about five years ago with his brother Godbless after their mother could no longer care for them. Davis is one of the top students in has class and is in class 7. Davis is always very helpful to the younger boys. He loves practicing English and French and playing board games.
Michael and his brother Kennedy are from West Kilimanjaro and came to SOL because their mother could not provide for them. Michael is in class 6 at Maji ya Chai Primary School and he likes to draw and play football.
Praygod came to the center with his younger siblings after their parents abandoned them and they were living on the streets. He loves playing football and likes to help in the garden. Parygod is currently in form 1 at Maji ya Chai Primary School.
Rahseed is a happy kid who joined the Sunrise of Life family in 2011 after he was deserted by the ones he loved. Rasheed grew up with his mother, and was largly supported by the Upendo Home that is near to Sunrise of Life. Rasheed is a very smart and is in class 7 at Ngorika Happy Watoto.
